Here at Thorne Road Chiropractic Clinic, we want to make it as simple as possible for our patients to understand chiropractic treatment, which is why we have created a comprehensive list of FAQs to make sure that your questions can be answered as quickly as possible. To ensure that your questions are answered thoroughly, too, we have decided to take a look at some of the broader questions in greater detail.
A chiropractor is trained to identify and correct joint problems present around the body. To do this, trained specialists use their hands to apply controlled force to a joint, carefully manipulating them in order to relieve tension or realign a joint. However, a chiropractor will also use soft tissue treatments where necessary in order to correct dysfunction.
While chiropractors often deal with joint problems, this is not to say that they won’t deal with muscles, ligaments and scar tissue, too. Given the holistic nature of chiropractic philosophy, a chiropractor may have to treat many different areas of the body in order to alleviate one particular problem.
As chiropractors do not prescribe medicine of any kind, they will instead offer a series of exercises, advice on general posture and provide a suitable exercise regime in line with corrections that were made throughout your treatments.
As we stated in our FAQs page, chiropractic treatment is very effective for headaches and migraines.
Headaches have a number of triggers. For example, they may be caused by foods, environmental stimuli (such as noises and lights) and behaviour (such as insomnia and excessive exercise). While a minority of headaches are warning signals caused by physical problems, most are primary headaches, where the headache is the problem in and of itself.
Chiropractors often identify that most primary headaches can be alleviated through manipulation of the neck or spine. This is because, as we spend more and more time in a fixed position (like at a computer), we experience increased joint irritation in the neck and upper back which, in turn, causes our headaches.
Sciatica can be described as when the sciatic nerve, which runs from hips to your feet, becomes irritated. The problem can manifest in a variety of different ways. You could experience odd sensations anywhere from your lower back down through your legs to your feet and toes, and they could be numbness, pins and needles or sharp burning pains.
Whether through heat and cold therapy or effective spinal manipulation, we can treat sciatica effectively by using chiropractic methods.
